Kluane Lake – June 2

Cottonwood Creek RV Park, Destruction Bay, YT

We had planned to ride on to Haines Junction today. The sounds of this beautiful place on Kluane Lake are too much of a lure. Waves crash on the shore and water birds sing and call. The views are phenomenal. The snow-capped Saint Elias Mountains border the lake to the southwest. The Ruby Range flanks the distant shore. We need some rest, and this is the perfect spot.

The owners of this campground purchased the property in the late 1960s as recreational property. Over the years, they have turned it into a world-class camping destination. Every campsite has an outstanding view, and the hospitality is endless. If you are ever traveling through this area, you should put this place on your list of places to stay.

When we leave here, we will climb and descend hills for 40 miles before making our final 10 mile descent into Haines Junction. Before we make that trek, I will spend the day recuperating by napping on the sun-drenched deck, gazing at the mountains, and listening to the birds. Tonight, I will, again, be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the crashing waves.

Life is good!
